The NARS Ham of the Year Award is the club's highest honor and is presented annually to a member who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, service, and commitment to the Northwest Amateur Radio Society. The award recognizes individuals whose efforts have significantly contributed to the success of the club, the advancement of amateur radio, and the support of fellow members. Contributions may include leadership, volunteer service, technical projects, repeater maintenance, public service activities, training and mentoring, event planning, emergency communications support, or other activities that benefit the club and the amateur radio community.
Nominations for Ham of the Year may be submitted by any current NARS member. Nominations should be provided to the Board of Directors. The nomination should describe the candidate's accomplishments and explain how their contributions have positively impacted the club during the past year. The membership should consider each candidate's overall service, participation, leadership, and dedication to the club's mission. The membership will vote on the members nominated during a specific period of time. The member with the most votes will be named the "Ham of the Year". The award is typically presented at the club's annual banquet where the recipient is recognized for their outstanding contributions and service to NARS.
Suggested Evaluation Criteria
The membership may consider the following when evaluating nominees:
- Club leadership and committee participation
- Volunteer service and event support
- Mentoring, education, and promotion of amateur radio
- Technical contributions to club projects, repeaters, or infrastructure
- Participation in emergency and public service communications
- Advancement of the club's goals and objectives
- Demonstrated professionalism, cooperation, and positive representation of NARS
The Ham of the Year award is intended to recognize a member whose sustained efforts, enthusiasm, and service have made a meaningful and lasting impact on NARS and its members.
