2027 ARRL Field Day is June 26, 27, 2026. Stay tuned for more details as it gets closer.
ARRL Field Day is the premier annual operating event in amateur radio and has been held every year since 1933. Sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), it takes place on the fourth full weekend of June and brings together more than 31,000 amateur radio operators across North America. During this event, clubs and individual operators set up temporary stations in parks, schools, emergency operations centers, and other public locations to demonstrate the capabilities of amateur radio.
More than just a contest, Field Day serves as a practical emergency communications exercise. Participants operate using portable antennas, generators, batteries, solar power, and other off-grid power sources, simulating conditions that might exist during a natural disaster or large-scale communications outage. The event challenges operators to establish reliable communications in less-than-ideal conditions while practicing the skills that make amateur radio a valuable public service resource.
Field Day is also amateur radio's largest public outreach event. Clubs invite community members, elected officials, emergency management personnel, and prospective hams to visit their sites and learn about radio technology. Visitors can see how operators communicate across the country and around the world without relying on the internet, cellular networks, or traditional infrastructure. The event highlights the unique ability of amateur radio to provide resilient communications when other systems fail.
For many operators, Field Day is one of the most anticipated weekends of the year. It combines technical experimentation, emergency preparedness, education, and fellowship. Radio amateurs work around the clock making contacts, testing equipment, mentoring new operators, and enjoying the camaraderie that is at the heart of the hobby. Whether operating voice, Morse code, or digital modes, participants demonstrate the versatility and enduring value of amateur radio while having fun and serving their communities.
