Connecting People Through Radio, Technology, and Community

The
Northwest Amateur Radio Society (NARS) is more than a radio club. We are a community of curious minds, problem solvers, technology enthusiasts, and public servants who share a passion for communication and learning.

Based in the northwest Houston area, NARS brings together people from all walks of life. Some members have decades of radio experience, while others are just discovering the hobby for the first time. What unites us is a desire to learn, experiment, serve our communities, and enjoy the friendships that amateur radio creates.

Whether you're interested in emergency communications, electronics, antennas, digital technologies, satellites, contesting, or simply making friends around the world, there's a place for you in NARS.

Founded in 1985, the Northwest Amateur Radio Society (NARS) became a Texas 501(c)(3) charitable organization on May 15, 2023, and actively supports community and public service events.

NARS members enjoy a wide range of amateur radio activities, including:

Member Activities
QRP and HF operation Volunteer Examiners Testing
Chasing DX VHF/UHF repeater and simplex operation
Contests and Special Events Satellite communications
Homebrewing Meshtastic (off-grid texting)
Rag-chewing Repeater operation
Transmitter Hunting (Fox Hunts) Modes: FM, Digital, SSB, CW, FreeDV, Winlink, VarAC

Most importantly, we enjoy spending time together, sharing our knowledge, experimenting, having fun, and eating, of course. We welcome all amateur radio operators, as well as family members and friends.
